All About EMDR Therapy

Updated: Jun 17

What is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)? According to the EMDR Institute, EMDR is "a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences". EMDR uses bilateral stimulation, typically eye movements, in a structured protocol to help individuals process and heal.

Within the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model, EMDR therapy facilitates the accessing and processing of traumatic memories and other adverse life experience to bring these to an adaptive resolution (in other words, allowing you to remember these experiences, but not relive them with accompanying distress).

After successful treatment with EMDR therapy, emotional distress is relieved, negative beliefs of self are reframed, and physiological arousal is reduced.

To help you have a deeper understanding of this treatment, we are proud
